We often feel like we could be Charlie, here in our gelato factory, just not quite so young (we all look a bit more like Grandpa Joe in real life). We’re screening the original 1971 version (sorry Jonny Depp fans). Included in the ticket price is our own tribute to those scrumdiddlyumptious Wonka Bars, one of which will contain a MESSINA GOLDEN TICKET!

THE URBAN DAIRY at MELBOURNE FOOD AND WINE FESTIVAL

We’re taking over THE URBAN DAIRY as part of Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. And seeing as it’s the urban dairy, we thought we would get all experimental with milk. Thanks to our buddies at Meredith Dairy and their be-ewe-tiful sheep, we’ve made a sheep’s milk ricotta gelato. We’ve also gone all buff and made buffalo milk yoghurt soft serve drizzled with condensed milk caramel.

The 2016 Festival Hub is a homage to all things dairy. Open for 10 days in Queensbridge Square with a daily rotation of events and menus, we’ll be there 9&10 March, plus Big Gay Ice Cream and Pierre’s and Hartsyard will all be whipping up things in the dairy.

SYDNEY CELLAR DOOR

WINE-O-CLOCK will commence today from 5pm at Sydney Cellar Door in Hyde Park and continue all weekend.  What better way to forget finish the working week than to head down to Hyde Park and taste the finest drops NSW wineries have to offer.

Every glass of wine, needs a hearty plate of food to help you make it through the night and taste every winery on offer. After you’ve munched on a bit of Porteno or Ribs and Burgers head over to our boozy GELATO tent to get a tipsy taste of our IN-CIDER SCOOP and CHAMPAGNE SUPERNOVA.  Our apple cider sorbet will refresh your pallet and get you ready for your next tipple or if you’d rather get onto the bubbles, grab a scoop of Champagne Supernova – mango gelato with lychee meringue and champagne gel.

If you’re one to play it safe, we’ll have MILK CHOCOLATE WITH CHOCOLATE PEANUT FUDGE and SALTED CARAMEL WITH WHITE CHOCOLATE on offer for the whole weekend.

THE MESSINAMOBILE IS BORN

We recently rescued a seriously retro 1969 CITROEN ICE CREAM VAN, gave him a little spit and polish, and kitted it out with a banging soft serve machine.

Actually, after a few seriously hyperactive weekends bouncing off the walls, we decided to share the sugar love and by parking up out side our friends ST ALI in South Melbourne for two weeks in February.

We made a new menu of soft serve sundaesgelato sandwiches and a nostalgic gelato birthday cake (complete with a candle). Even if it’s not your birthday, you’re still allowed to eat it.

Nicknamed the ‘MESSINAMOBILE‘, this big guy may not be able to push 30kms/ hour but boy does he make up for it in frozen sweet goodness.  The roving wonder will be starting his life outside ST. ALI during February and slowly chugging his way around Melbourne, pumping out soft serve and birthday cake to his fans.

Messina Smirkers

You may know by now that here at Messina, we aim to bring you unique, somewhat crazy, but ultimately delicious creations at any festivals we set up shop at. Recently there’s been the likes of ‘Duncan’s Doughnut Bar’ at Sydney Festival, and tennis inspired treats at the Australian Open Festival (including Ley Ley’s Lamington, Raffa’s Jaffa and two more). You guys have sunk your teeth into them and through that teeth sinking and lip licking, one trend has come to our attention.

TASTE BONDI – we’ve made the most Bondi flavour we could think of

Saturday 16, Sunday 17, Sunday 24 and Tuesday 26 (Australia Day) of January 2016

When the QT Bondi came to us and asked to make a flavour to celebrate their opening in Bondi, we moved our next marketing meeting to the grassy knoll, got ourselves a green smoothie and a skinny almond milk rice semi soy latte and got our thinking caps on in the sunshine.

The result? The “2026” – roasted coconut and yoghurt sorbet with Messina trail mix, quinoa & chia seed choc block

Sounds kinda healthy doesn’t it? We can’t claim it is, but it’s pretty tasty
