We’ll be doing a 4 day pop up with the good people at COBURG VELODROME FOODTRUCK FESTIVAL from 26th-29th Jan.  If the length of the title is anything to go by, we have high expectations.

The entertainment offering boasts live music, DJ’s, a Tripple JJJ hottest 100 count down (!!!) and if that wasn’t enough, they’re creating an outdoor cinema every evening – showcasing some absolute classics.

What’s there to eat? Mr Burger, Korean Fried Chicken, Pierogi Pierogi, Poke Time and a whole lot more.

For dessert, we’ll be serving up 4 flavours each day including our Aus day special:

  • LAMINGTON – Milk chocolate and coconut gelato annihilated with housemade lamingtons
  • GORGEOUS DAVE – Caramel gelato with caramel sauce and waffles
  • MALCOLM’S MALTED MILK – Malted white chocolate gelato with peanut, banana and choc cream cheese pie
  • SALTED COCONUT AND MANGO SALSA

Spilt Milk all day and all night –  music, food and art festival is kicking off on the 3rd December at the Commonwealth Park.  You’ll find us in our custom built MESSINA SOUP KITCHEN selling our hand made gelato soup tins.

There’s four flavours to pick from, varying from the creamy, to the nutty and the fruity – there’s even a boozy one!

If you miss us at Spilt Milk, we’ll also be at The Commons Street Feast from the 9th-18th December daily form 5pm-10pm with yep you guessed it… more tins!

Hailing from Melbourne, The Big Design Market has made it to Sydney this year in all of it’s glory.  Offering a bazaar of local and internationally designed homewares, textiles, fashion, furniture, lighting, stationery and heaps of stuff for the kids… you’re bound to find something that you can’t live without.

We’re debuting MR MESSINA, our newest addition to the events team! He’ll be filled with 2 custom designed flavours and 2 signatures, ready to pump out scoops to the happy punters.

We’ll be set up in the food precinct outside along with our other foodie friends Mary’s, Porteno and Archie Rose.

NO SOUP FOR YOU!  Well not really, our Soup Kitchen is back and there’s plenty of tinned “soup” to go round.

With the Royal Croquet Club making it to Bondi this year after doing the rounds in Melbourne and Adelaide last year, we’ve re-created our MESSINA SOUP KITCHEN, ready to feed our four saucy soft serve gelato tins to all you hungry croquet champions.

MELBOURNE CUP CARNIVAL – THE PARK

Yee…Haw! We’re getting ready to dig our hooves into The Park at Melbourne Cup Carnival spring races this year.   The place you can trot over to, have a dance, eat and drink, kick your shoes off and relax.

You’ll find us over in the food precinct along with Biggie Smalls, Huxtaburger, Burn City Smokers and a whole bunch of bars.

What’s in store for you lucky punters?  Two positively boozy & two not so boozy sundaes for you to come and graze on (sorry, no hay or carrots are on the menu).   If you’re feeling as posh as a pedigree – opt for the ETON MESSINA, decadently layered with strawberries and custard soft serve. But if you’re in need of a friend – I’M SO NEGR-ONELY; bitter orange, campari and chocolate concoction is there to hold your hand.  Whats left? You can go nuts with THE NUTTY PROFESSOR or get totally peached on champagne sorbet.

Tramsheds is one of Sydney’s lost treasures, which has now been restored to its former glory.

The abandoned 1904 Tramway Depot famed for it’s graffiti has now relaunched as Harold Park TRAMSHEDS, Glebe – designed specifically to house a hand selected bunch of Australia’s finest providers and purveyors of food innovation.

The site’s history has provided some interesting inspo for Messina founder Nick Palumbo. As well as being a mad scientist with an obsession for gelato, Nick is also a self described ‘frustrated architect’.  You may have noticed our most recent stores are getting more and more 70’s with a dose of art deco in them…another one of Nick’s obsessions. Don’t worry there aren’t too many more.

Before every Messina opening, Nick disappears from the office, sets up camp on site (grows a questionable beard) and doesn’t leave that site until the Messina is open for business.

We’re opening our first Newtown store today – right smack bang in the middle of King Street!

We’re taking over the honorary position of the old Gelatomassi site that has stood proud for the past 14 years.

“I’ve known the boys from Massi since they opened their doors in 2003. We’ve always liked Newtown as a potential destination but the truth is it felt a bit crowded with gelato operators so the time was never quite right. With the boys now moving on, it felt like a nice transition for everyone. We move into a site with a bit of history and take over from someone that’s been a true local in the Newtown food scene for years.  Gelatomassi’s longest serving employee is even staying on to help steer the ship!” Nick Palumbo (Messina)
