BRISBANE STORE: NOW OPEN!

brisbane store

Brisbane, the wait is over. No more trawling through the the inner city markets and pop ups to see where we’ll be frantically scooping for a day – we now have permanent gelato digs, so you can come and visit us whenever your heart desires.

With the potential to be our flagship store, this beauty is one of our designers proudest moments.  Nick Palumbo; Messina’s founder and self described ‘frustrated architect’ has created quite the masterpiece, along with Vie Studio – amping up his design specs to do justice to The Melbourne Residences brand new retail space.  The vibe is juxtaposed somewhere between an Apple Store and your (cool) grandma’s retro living room – with 9m high concrete walls and ceilings, 70’s mahogany panels and geometric wooden built in cake cabinets.  It wouldn’t be a Messina store without polished concrete floors, an expansive bright red cabinet filled with 35 flavours and 5 specials and a whole lotta light streaming in from the floor to ceiling glass.

TRAMSHEDS, GLEBE IS OPEN!

SHOP 3, 1 DALGAL WAY, FOREST LODGE

find the store

Tramsheds is one of Sydney’s lost treasures, which has now been restored to its former glory.

The abandoned 1904 Tramway Depot famed for it’s graffiti has now relaunched as Harold Park TRAMSHEDS, Glebe – designed specifically to house a hand selected bunch of Australia’s finest providers and purveyors of food innovation.

The site’s history has provided some interesting inspo for Messina founder Nick Palumbo. As well as being a mad scientist with an obsession for gelato, Nick is also a self described ‘frustrated architect’.  You may have noticed our most recent stores are getting more and more 70’s with a dose of art deco in them…another one of Nick’s obsessions. Don’t worry there aren’t too many more.

Before every Messina opening, Nick disappears from the office, sets up camp on site (grows a questionable beard) and doesn’t leave that site until the Messina is open for business.

NEWTOWN IS OPEN!

NEWTOWN STORE: 262 King Street, Newtown

*INNER WEST ALERT*

We’re opening our first Newtown store today – right smack bang in the middle of King Street!

We’re taking over the honorary position of the old Gelatomassi site that has stood proud for the past 14 years.

“I’ve known the boys from Massi since they opened their doors in 2003. We’ve always liked Newtown as a potential destination but the truth is it felt a bit crowded with gelato operators so the time was never quite right. With the boys now moving on, it felt like a nice transition for everyone. We move into a site with a bit of history and take over from someone that’s been a true local in the Newtown food scene for years.  Gelatomassi’s longest serving employee is even staying on to help steer the ship!” Nick Palumbo (Messina)

………

“We’ve been looking to move on from Gelatomassi for some time now. It really was just time for a sea change and we wanted to concentrate on other business interests we have. The conversation with Nick and the Messina guys taking over our site started about a year ago. Until now the time wasn’t quite right for us or them. I’m pleased to say its now a reality. We’ve known Nick for well over 10 years and we can’t think of a better operator to take over from where Massi has left off. Gelato Messina’s reputation speaks for itself.” Salvatore La Rosa (Gelatomassi)

MESSINA IN THE CITY

NEW STORE OPENING IN CIRCULAR QUAYCicularquay

Sydney CBD dwellers, you can now get your Messina fix right at your doorstep! It’s been a long time coming, but we’re happy to announce that we’ve opened a new store in Circular Quay, fittingly on the first day of spring!

We’ve opened up in GATEWAY– the new and much needed food precinct to hit Sydney’s city foreshore along with Din Tai Fung, Four Frogs Creperie and Workshop Espresso. You’re now able to walk to the Opera House before your scoop melts…

We’re hoping this will brighten up the late night eating scene for those hitting the town (we’re next to Macca’s) or stuck in a consulting firm crunching numbers and auditing – there’s Messina at the end of the spreadsheet.

NEWTOWN OPENING SOON

NEWTOWN OPENING SOON

The Lowdown on Newtown

You read that right, Messina is coming to Newtown. We’ve been toying with the idea for years but finding the right home has proven to be elusive. Until now!

We’re completely chuffed to say we are taking over from long time Newtown stalwarts – Gelatomassi. After 14 successful years, the boys are moving on… and Messina’s moving in!

With any luck, we should be open by the end of August.

“I’ve known the boys from Massi since they opened their doors in 2003. We’ve always liked Newtown as a potential destination but the truth is it felt a bit crowded with gelato operators so the time was never quite right. WINDSOR – opening 5pm Monday

Three’s not a crowd. Three is three places you can now get a scoop of Messina in Melbourne.

Since opening our second store in Richmond a couple of months ago, we figured you guys liked us in VIC, so have been working on a third store which will open it’s doors very, very soon. Without being biased, our soon-to-be third Melbourne store on Chapel Street, Windsor, is one of our best-looking kids with fully wood panelled walls, some very snazzy red cool rooms and we’re hoping, some very handsome staff.

171 Chapel Street, Windsor, Melbourne.
Opens 5pm Monday 2nd November

PLUS it’s next to a vodka bar. Borsch Vodka & Tears is our rad-est next door neighbour, prizes for those seen shotting vodka in the queue, or shotting gelato.

Our newest store has a (admittedly) small secret room out back where we’ll be holding GMA (Gelato Messina Anonymous), our newest counseling Groups. for those struggling with an addiction to Messina. No, well – sometimes we think we need this, but we’ll actually be using the room for private degustations and mini gelato class, so watch this space.

Some ‘teaser’ shots to get you going…

MELBOURNE’S NEW ADDITION

NEW STORE! 164 SWAN STREET – RICHMOND, MELBOURNE

OPENS TODAY – THURSDAY 11 JUNE @ 5PM

We tried to keep it a secret for a little while (not very well to be honest!), but there was no hiding from you guys when we first stepped our gelato-making feet into our new store in Swan Street, Richmond.

As our Fitzroy store is bursting at the seams somewhat (and we love you all for this), we decided it needed a little brother or sister to keep him warm and in good company this winter. Now Richmond locals can get a lick of the action.

We’ve turned a pre-loved pizzeria around pretty quickly – the bun was in the oven for three short months and now we’re ready to welcome it to the world (almost anyway!).

We’re COOLIN’ down the Gold Coast

Screen Shot 2015-02-15 at 14.04.07

We’re all going on a summer holiday and everybody’s invited! Pack your togs, grab a snorkel and get ready to dive deep – we’ve opened in Coolangatta. And you best get road trippin’ because we got 40 flavours and they ain’t gonna eat themselves!

For those of you who haven’t heard, in-between waxing our bikini lines, catching gnarly barrels at snapper rocks and braiding our long blonde surf locks, somehow we’ve managed to find time open a new store north of the border and we’re more excited than a crackhead who’s never seen snow!
